Beach Dog Boarding & Salon offers professional and safe dog and cat boarding services . . . from a few hours at Doggie Day Care to weeks or numerous months . . . depending on your needs. We’re not your typical “boarding” facility where dogs are locked up all day. With the exception of some “delicate” dogs, most of our dogs run freely in our large grassy and brick area which is attached to numerous large kennels that are kept open during most of the day and night. Their beds are put in separate kennels, but unless there is a special situation where I need to close up a dog in their kennel, the dogs are able to sleep where they want, usually choosing their own beds or the cool concrete under the palapa. Small dogs sometimes sleep in separate areas, depending on the dogs and guests at that time. All dogs are kept in a VERY safe situation and dogs that are not 100% social are kept in a different area. All our dogs are fed separately in the morning and evening in individual kennels where they are closed up for 10-15 minutes and their food is put in clean stainless steel bowls. There are numerous stainless steel water bowls throughout the facility and they get changed and washed 2-3 times a day. Careful attention is given to all of our guests. We love dog psychology and given so many sizes and personalities, it’s very important to know that our dogs get along safely. Ocassionally a dog may need to be closed in a kennel, but it all depends on the situation and guests at that particular time. Aggressive dogs or females in heat are not allowed under any circumstances. We also give special attention to senior pets during their stay at camp. Some seniors don’t know when to get out of the sun or when to stop playing, so we do keep an extra eye on them. Bring a supply of your pet’s regular food because it is easier on their systems and most owners have their own special foods. We prefer they go thru as few changes as possible during their stay with us. We also recomment you bring your pet’s own inexpensive bed or towel so that they will know where they belong. Some dogs may wander around wondering where to sleep, but if they have their own spot, they tend to be more relaxed in a new environment. You are even welcome to bring a crate which we would place in the large concrete kennel. Many dogs enjoy their crates. Don’t bring an expensive or nice bed, since I can’t guarantee it won’t get dirty or stained. We also recommend you bring an old t-shirt or something with your scent on it. I put this in their bed, which also may help to make them more comfortable in a new environment. Toys and treat should stay at home because they usually cause disagreements with the guests . . . they ALL want the toy! No food bowls needed because I use a clean stainless steel bowl for each feeding. We have two entry gates just to make sure that a dog doesn’t get thru the gate while a guest in entering or leaving the grounds. Plus, for an added piece of mind, there is someone at our facility 95% of the time, including every night. The safety and comfort of your pet is our biggest concern. If you are going to be gone for any length of time, we are always happy to email you an update on how your pet is doing. Just let us know. If you would care to have your dog bathed or groomed so they will be nice and clean when you pick them up, just let us know at check-in and we’ll have them ready for you when you pick them up. Space is limited so reservations are strongly recommended for boarding. You do not need to bring your papers at check-in. We will take your word for it, but please never endanger the rest of our dogs. A Bordatella vaccination to prevent kennel cough is usually administered thru a nasal injection and usually lasts up to 6 mos. Must be administered by a veterinarian. Costs about $10 dollars and is needed here in Mexico if you take your dog out anywhere in the public. Please protect your dog!! Tick Prevention . . . from my experience Ticks are a dogs’ worst enemy down here in the jungle, and they are aggressive. A flea & tick protection is a MUST!! We work VERY hard to keep our facility free of fleas and ticks without using poisonous sprays. After almost 5 years and a few thousand dogs later, we now require that your dog be on a flea and tick program, preferably Frontline Plus or Advantix, before being brought into our facility.  From my years of experience down here, it seems that Frontline Plus or Advantix is the best product available. I am not a vet and I am only sharing my experiences dealing with a few thousand dogs down here. Frontline Plus or Advantixabsorbs into the dogs’ glands in their hair follicles and once a tick comes in contact even with the hair, they will die within 24 hrs. Personally, I usually apply Frontline Plus to my own dogs every 3-4 weeks to be sure it stays in their system. Frontline Plus only works on ticks for a maximum of 4 weeks. It is listed on the box that it can kill fleas for up to 3 months, but NOT ticks. It needs to be applied at least monthly.
